Abu Simbel

Египет

The Temples at Abu Simbel are located in Southern Egypt, at the second cataract of the Nile.

Ramses II chose the site because it was already sacred to Hathor, goddess of motherhood love and happiness. This act strengthened his divinity in the eyes of the ancient Egyptians and his act encouraged them to believe that he was a god.

The history of the Abu Simbel temples starts with the twenty-year hard labour to build these impressive structures (from 1244 BC till 1224 BC), along with four other rock temples built in Nubia during the reign of Ramses II.

Many academics are more likely believe that the two temples of Abu Simbel were an act of ego, pride and love on the side of Ramses II, so he could Commemorate his triumph at the Battle of Kadesh, honor his wife Nefertari, and honor himself too.
