
Bourgas is the largest city in south-east Bulgaria and the second largest on the Black Sea coast with a population of 203,000 people. Bourgas is the most important cultural, industrial, transport and tourist center in south-east Bulgaria. Next to the city, there is the biggest harbor of Bulgaria, the only oil seaport in the country and the biggest oil refinery on the Balkans. Nearby Bourgas there are few reserves and protected areas, ancient cities, and medieval settlements. The Black sea coast and the annual festivals welcome the guests. The monastery "St. Annastasia" located on the St. Annastasia island in the waters of the Bourgas bay is the only preserved medieval island monastery in the Black sea.
